Th**e PeaceNexus Foundation**

PeaceNexus (www.peacenexus.org) is an operational foundation based in Switzerland. It provides a range of capacity building services with the objective of strengthening the effectiveness of organisations that play a role in building peace. Our service areas include: organisational development for peacebuilding champions; developing organisational capacities for conflict sensitivity and supporting inclusive dialogue with business to develop solutions to local peacebuilding challenges. We provide support to international partners as well as local partners in our focus regions of West Africa, Central Asia, Western Balkans and South East Asia.

In line with our 2018-2020 strategy, in Southeast Asia, we aim to ensure that key actors working on economic development in conflict-affected regions are able to do so in a way that is conflict sensitive and supports the peace processes. PeaceNexus has been supporting a range of partners in Myanmar since 2012 and will continue to focus on Myanmar within the region for the next three years, while exploring opportunities for broader regional programming.

Southeast AsiaRegional Advisor

PeaceNexus seeks a Regional Advisor to support the development of its programme and partnerships in Southeast Asia, expanding upon partnerships that have focused on inclusive dialogue with business in Myanmar. Our partnerships aim to address local social tensions and increase companies’ contribution to bringing about a more peaceful and just society. The Regional Advisor will be responsible for supporting the delivery of PeaceNexus’ strategic objectives in the region, in collaboration with PeaceNexus staff in headquarters. S/he will also be responsible for developing local staff and consultants to deliver high quality services to our partners in our service areas.

PeaceNexus is looking for an individual with an in-depth understanding of Myanmar and the region and who is passionate about contributing to improved peacebuilding effectiveness through a partnership approach. The anticipated workload is for 80-100%. The Advisor must be based in the region and would ideally work from Yangon, Myanmar.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

1. Programme development and management

Act as PeaceNexus’ representative in Myanmar, building strong relationships with civil society organisations, private sector actors, local authorities and multilateral actors. Develop and implement the regional programme in line with organisational objectives, including through the development of new partnerships. Develop and implement annual work plans in collaboration with colleagues at headquarters, including contributing to monitoring, evaluation and learning systems. Implement PeaceNexus’ risk assessment and regional security policy.

2. Project management and accompaniment of selected PeaceNexus partners

Directly manage a selected number of partnerships, including through organisational assessments, process design and process support and monitoring during implementation. Support effective working relations between PeaceNexus, its partners and facilitators/experts hired.

3. Communication

Report to PeaceNexus’ management and Board on progress to implement the regional strategy and development of specific partnerships. Contribute to PeaceNexus external communication in the region and globally.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Peacebuilding knowledge and experience

University degree relevant to peacebuilding or international development or public administration; minimum five years of experience working in peacebuilding-relevant programmes in Southeast Asia, with a focus on Myanmar a distinct advantage.

Specific knowledge and expertise relevant for one or several of our service areas:

  • Experience in organisational change management and capacity-building

Work experience in process design, facilitation and accompaniment of organisational development, capacity building and change management processes

  • Experience in business and peace

Work experience in influencing the private sector and strengthening accountability, community engagement and conflict sensitivity capacities in private sector actors.

  • *Knowl**ed**g**e of conflict analysis and conflict sensitivity***

Work experience with conflict analysis and applying conflict sensitive approaches in programmes and organisational systems and processes.

  • Experience in the design and facilitation of multi-stakeholder dialogue processes

Experience in process design, facilitation-skills building and convening multi-stakeholder dialogues between communities, authorities and the private sector. Knowledge of alternative dispute resolution practices and mechanisms to address community grievances.

Programme and project management skills

A strong track record in project management both individually and as part of a team, with experience working remotely with colleagues and partners;

  • · Ability to see the big picture while formulating analytical and concrete recommendations on the shorter term;
  • · Demonstrated leadership, integrity and flexibility.

Partner orientation

Demonstrated experience working through a partnership approach, ability to tailor approaches to specific partners’ needs and organisational contexts.

Communication

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with colleagues and partners with diverse backgrounds and approaches. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Native level in English is essential and working knowledge of a language relevant to SE Asia would be an advantage.
